I did find a service manual but it does not cover the engine, only the tractor. I pulled the injection pump to have it rebuilt. There was no access to the front drive gear on the pump so I had to remove the pump with the gear attached. After removing it, now I don't know how to get the timing marks lined up or which marks to use. There are two marks on the crank pulley close to each other. One mark has one line indented into pulley and very close to it is another set of marks.

The only marks on the pump gear itself are stamped on the front of the gear not visible from the port. These marks are 00,and an "A". My question is which mark on the crank should I use to set the timing. I assume the front cylinder is no. As the marks on the crank came to the pointer I discovered a line mark on the engine drive gear looking into the round inspection hole.

So I'm pretty sure one of the crank marks on the pointer with the mark on the drive gear showing through the hole is TDC. That still leaves the question of which mark to use on the crank? Then when I get there which mark on the pump gear should I use, and should it be set to the pointer mark on the side inspection port? I suppose I could make a paint mark in between the teeth on the gears that correspond with the mark on the front of the gear.

Any and all help you could give will greatly appreciated. If anyone has, or knows of where I could get a manual that would be great too!

How do you put this engine back in time? Although I have one, I have not timed the Iseki, but most small diesels are similar. If a manual is truly not available, the trick is to find what the injection timing is for your engine: for instance, 25 degrees BTDC before top dead centre. If you don't know, look for timing marks on the flywheel or front pully.

Disconnect your fuel pressure lines from the injection pump, move throttle to full position, pull decompressor if it has one and slowly turn the engine over the proper direction by hand until you see fuel moving on cyl one at the pump.

Look for a timing inspection window for the flywheel or timing marks on the front pully. Timing mark should align when fuel begins moving. If it doesn't, then you need to time the pump. Timing is pretty critical on a small diesel. Think back when you disconnected it, did you remove any shims or how is the pump driven? Do I mark the timing on the injection pump in between the splines of the gear and align with the indicator at the port on top and bring the timing mark to the inspection port at the flywheel?

My Iseki pump is gear driven from the front. The engine is out of the TU at the moment and I will take a look at the setup tomorrow. I am thinking there will be multiple timing marks on the flywheel corresponding to each cylinder. If that is the case, it will be pretty straight forward. Since yours is a Bolens, is there not a shop manual available?

It also is a E3AF1 series. Looking at your front pulley from the injection pump side, you will see an alignment mark on the front of the engine. Approx middle of the front pulley.

Turn the engine around by hand until a corresponding mark on the front pulley lines up with it. The pointer in the injection pump inspection window should now line up with the mark on the drive gear of the pump. I would ensure you are at TDC with no. Intake cycles, then both valves closed. The pump has three attachment bolts. The bottom bolt anchors the pump, the upper two have elongated bolt holes allowing for timing the pump.

Once everything lines up, ensure the timing marks are lining up with fuel feeding the correct cylinder. You can bleed the air out of the fuel system, open throttle wide and with the fuel pressure lines disconnected, watch for fuel advancing at the proper port of the injector pump compression cycle. With these types of pumps, you can advance or retard the injector pump by moving it from side to side ensure all three bolts are slightly loose. These are just observations from my diesel experience.

The first problem I have is the key worked it way out the first day I used it. I don't think it was the original key. Because the switch is jimmied up. I can turn the switch with another key. But it won't start. The glow plug will light up and the low and high beam lights will come on. But when you try to crank it will do nothing.

I know I need a switch and key. But what else could be wrong. It looks like the starter has been replaced recently. It is shinny compared the rest of the engine. Do you have a switch and a key in stock? Also I live in middle Tennessee near Nashville do you know of anyone who would work on it here? I would like to know the age of my tractor. I was told it is a Paint is still good and low hours could be but I don't know for sure.

It has no title. How can you determine the year it was made? Please email me any info you have. Especially about parts and prices.
